Spring has Sprung

As the days grow longer and the warmth of the sun kisses the earth, a symphony of blooming flowers announces the arrival of spring. With this change of season, the diligent bees of Sauvignon Honey spring into action, preparing for a season of abundance and growth.

For our dedicated beekeepers, this transition signals a shift in gears toward increased honey production and the thriving of our bee population. Embracing the arrival of spring, we embark on a meticulous process designed to optimize hive health and honey extraction.

At the start of this vibrant season, when our hives display signs of productivity, we engage in a thorough inspection. In this elaborate ritual, we first remove the honey super, delicately examining each frame for potential threats such as the elusive Small Hive Beetle and other pests. With utmost care, we also measure the honey reserves present in the frames after the grueling winter period, ensuring our bees are well-nourished.
Turning our attention to the vital brood, we scrutinize every frame, seeking tiny adversaries that may jeopardize the hive's well-being. Vigilant against pests and diseases, we meticulously examine the various stages of the brood cycle, from delicate eggs to plump larvae and encased pupae. This careful study allows us to assess the health of our buzzing community, ensuring a strong foundation for the season ahead.
During this transformative time, we embark on a quest to locate the Queen bee, the regal ruler of the hive. In order to maintain the hive's optimal vitality, she must be superseded every twelve months. By dutifully tending to this crucial task, we ensure that our colonies thrive, operating at an outstanding 100% efficiency. Once the Queen's presence is confirmed, our hives are thoughtfully reassembled, with an additional honey super to accommodate the forthcoming wealth of nectar.

Awakening from the dormant winter schedule, we resume our regular inspections on a biweekly basis. As we monitor the hive's progress and well-being, anticipation builds for the imminent bounty of honey extraction. The first extraction of the season approaches, beckoning us to gather the golden nectar our bees have diligently crafted from the blossoming flowers.

As the days continue to lengthen, we embark on this journey of rejuvenation and burgeoning growth. With careful precision and unwavering dedication, Sauvignon Honey's beekeepers ensure that our buzzing darlings thrive under the spring
